Supporting ambitious teens who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or burned out.

Not all teens who struggle look like they’re falling apart. Many high-achieving teens keep up the grades, the sports, the leadership roles—but underneath, they’re exhausted, anxious, and silently wondering how long they can keep it up.

I work with high-achieving teens across Washington State who are:

  • Taking AP classes or attending private college prep schools

  • Juggling intense academic pressure and high expectations

  • Caught up in test anxiety and the stress of college applications

  • Pushing themselves to excel in sports, arts, or extracurriculars

  • Perfectionistic and driven—but never feeling “good enough”

High achievement can be rewarding—but it comes with real mental health costs. Teens often experience:

  • Constant anxiety and overwhelm

  • Burnout masked by productivity

  • Depression hidden beneath straight A’s

  • Sleepless nights and overthinking

  • Feeling like their worth depends entirely on performance

Therapy for high achieving teens helps:

  • Manage anxiety, stress, and test anxiety

  • Recognize and prevent burnout

  • Balance ambition with self-care and downtime

  • Challenge perfectionism and all-or-nothing thinking

  • Cope with the pressures of college decisions and expectations

  • Build resilience and healthy coping tools

  • Improve communication with parents and others

  • Develop a sense of identity and worth beyond achievements

As an experienced therapist who’s worked extensively with teens, I understand both the external pressures and the internal storms that high-achieving adolescents face. Therapy offers a confidential space where they can step off the treadmill, speak honestly, and learn skills to feel grounded and confident—not just driven.

For parents:
If your teen seems anxious, irritable, withdrawn, or is constantly pushing themselves without rest, it might be time for extra support. Therapy can help your teen protect their mental health without sacrificing their goals—and help your family communicate better through these high-pressure years.

Because I offer online therapy, we can continue working together even when your teen heads off to college. This continuity can be incredibly helpful during one of life’s biggest transitions—helping teens stay grounded, supported, and focused as they adjust to new environments and challenges.

About Robyn

photo-experienced-online-therapist-for-high-achieving-teens-named-robyn-howisey

I’ve been a therapist for 20 years, and I’ve always worked with teens. Why? Because I genuinely love it.

Adolescents are insightful, funny, kind, compassionate—and often deeply struggling. I love diving into conversations about mental health, school, friendships, relationships, parents, and the future. They keep me up on the latest slang (don’t worry, I try not to be that cringy adult using it). I get to be a cheerleader, but also someone who can say, “Yeah… that was a pretty dumb move,” with honesty and care.

I think teens like me because I’m easygoing, warm, and supportive. They also tend to appreciate that I’m not afraid to be more direct when they actually want guidance. I’ve been told more times than I can count that I’m one of the least judgmental adults they’ve ever met—and that kind of safety matters.

I’m real and genuine. They can ask me anything, and I’ll give them an honest answer (within reason, of course). Not to toot my own horn, but I’m smart and articulate—I can keep up with the brightest, while still making it clear they have nothing to prove to me. My job isn’t to critique or correct. It’s to help them feel seen, heard, and supported while they figure out who they’re becoming.

It’s an honor to be a trusted adult in a teen’s life, and I’ve had the privilege of supporting some through high school, college, and beyond.
