Tasks for Children (part II – Ages 4-6 years old)
Tasks children can do to learn responsibility.
Children 4-6 years old can do everything for 18 mo -3 year olds, plus:
Help find grocery store items in the store
Help fold towels and wash clothes
Pour things
Give a back rub or foot rub
Help measure ingredients
Count goods at the store
Water plants
Sort white clothes from dark for laundry
Help with sweeping, dusting
Take library books and videos to or from car
Help younger siblings
Help plant a garden
Wash the floor
Put dishes in dishwasher
Measure soap for dishwasher and press start
Be responsible for compost buckets
Pull things in wagon
Assist in meal planning
Make a simple meal
Empty dishwasher and stack dishes on counter
Rake leaves for short periods of time
Help wash pets
Prepare own lunch
Walk well-behaved pets
Carry in firewood
Start to manage allowance
