Why do I do this work?
Why do I do therapy with kids?
Someone asked me the other day, “why do you do this work?” and I thought it would be a good thing to address in the blog. I don’t want to be cliche and say I do this work because I love it, but it is totally true.
I also do it because I love the challenge and the outcome. Every child and parent that comes to see me is different, and the work we do together will be different than anything else I have done with anyone else. Sometimes it is a challenge to really get to the core of the issues that are going on, or the find the most effective way to approach a problem. And I love it. I love it when a teen feels like they are finally understood, or that they can finally tell their parent what they’ve been holding inside. I love it when a parent can look at their child with new eyes after months or years of frustration and anger.
Most of all I do therapy with kids because I know it’s what I am here to do. I am here to help children heal so that they will grow up to be amazing adults and impact our society and planet in positive ways. I am here to help the children.
