Children’s basic needs:

-They need to belong
-They need to feel loved
-They need to feel powerful
-They need to feel valuable
-They need to feel like they have a place
-They need to experiment and explore

I believe children misbehave because they are trying to communicate that their needs are not being met, and they will try to get their needs met in inapporpriate ways. So the more you can help your child feel loved, powerful, valuable, etc., and can help them find appropriate ways to demonstrate power, to explore, to establish their own space, etc., the fewer struggles you will have.

A misbehaving child = a discouraged child (note a misbehaving child does not equal a bad child or bad parent).
